My experience on Zolio has been quite smooth so far. Currently, I am trying to diversify my portfolio and pursue a long strategy. I have several stocks dragging my portfolio down drastically (Apple, Google, Amazon) but I expect Google and Amazon to rebound. I am caught in a predicament with Apple as I made a bad call in the wake of the Samsung Galaxy S4 release. However, I am counting on Apple to decrease in price and enable me to cut my losses in the long run.
As far as the platform itself, the platform is relatively straightforward. However, it took me a while to figure out how to execute short sales and the learning center provides only very general information. Most of my research hence comes from external sources. Thus, it would be nice if there could be more guidance and tutorials on how to use the platform (visual aids/videos on how to execute each type of transaction). Furthermore, it would be nice if the platform could give you warnings and indicate when is a good time to buy/sell a particular stock given one’s existing portfolio (Ex: in my situation, it would be nice if Zolio would have warned me that my short position is failing and I should think about abandoning my position–this would have made me think twice about what I should do). This would definitely augment my learning experience.
